Our Coast and Climate Change
Classroom Workshops and Activities
Coastal communities will be impacted more severely by climate change in the future (e.g. more regular storm events), and primary pupils along the Solway may see a sea level rise of 30-32.5cm within their lifetime (UKCP09 Projections). Additionally, the Scottish Government now require Learning for Sustainability aims to be embedded within the Curriculum for Excellence; this includes climate change education that applies to their local areas.
Helping young people to understand how their homes and families may be impacted in the future will increase their ability to withstand and mitigate climate change; additionally, they will better understand why they should, and the ways in which they can, take climate action which will collectively help to tackle climate change.
Our lessons can be done in any order or as a one off, and introduce coastal science/issues in an engaging and accessible way, raising awareness of this future without overwhelming pupils.
