This is what peatland means to us at CCC: a mix of nature, carbon sequestration, and simple awe. Communities which have grown next to the peatland, wrapped in the landscape with myths and livelihoods, will no doubt have a whole host of wonderful words to describe what it means to them. What does peatland mean to you?
We are lucky in Dumfries and Galloway - and Scotland as a whole - to have so much peatland all around. It is a remarkable habitat, landscape, and carbon sink (when healthy).
Unfortunately, so much of our peatland is damaged, and for its local communities to push for - and contribute to - its restoration, they must have a connection with the land and a say in how it is used.
With that in mind, keep an eye on our blog and social media on the 1st of February, where CCC will announce a new project all about our connections with peatland.
I ask again: what does peatland mean to you?
