The D&G LEADER Rural Awards took place on Friday the 12th of November at Easterbrook Hall. The event aimed to recognise projects across Dumfries & Galloway, awarding special recognition to projects in 5 categories: Wealthier & Fairer Scotland, Smarter Scotland, Healthier Scotland, Safer & Stronger Scotland and Greener Scotland.
Selecting from shortlisted projects in the Greener Scotland category was the Chief Executive of the Rural Development Council in Northern Ireland, Martin McDonald. Projects in this category were scored on how they contributed towards the safeguarding, improvement and promotion of habitats for wildlife or which demonstrated and promoted a greener lifestyle in some way at community level. CCC's 'Creating CSmart Organisations' was chosen to best represent this category and received special recognition from Martin.

CCC Team and their Award
|

The CSmart Organisations project helps rural organisations across Dumfries & Galloway measure, monitor and reduce their carbon emissions. During the two years of the project, the CCC project team will work with 24 local rural organisations, providing assistance over a period of 6 months to each of them. The project is funded by the Dumfries and Galloway LEADER programme and CCC. The project aims to create a network of proactive Carbon Champions and organsiations within a range of sectors across the region. Not only will these organisations take action to reduce their own impact, but many have started to raise awareness within their community and act to inspire other organisations to reduce their impacts.
